Hi All,
I got an iphone and I am wondering what are some of the basic commands. I know how to type, but seem unable to use the "touch typing" feature. I have to double tap each letter which is rather time consuming and cumbersome. Also for some reason, tripple tapping the home button does not turn VO off, but instead a two finger tap does it. I also know that a three finger tap turns off the screen curtain. What other commands am I missing? Also I just got Ibooks and am wondering how to read books, how to turn pages, start reading, stop reading etc. If someone could post some commands that would be greatly apreciated.
Best regards,
Matthew
first, u need to setup the tripple tapping the home button to turn on and off vo, and the typing setting, u would need to change it, at de falt, i think it is set on double tap, but u can change it to the sliding setting, there is a couple of podcast that tell u all u need to know about VO, BTW, for my really bad typing, my keyboard is busted
Do you know where I can change these settings? In which menu I mean? I don't want to slide to type, I want to put my finger on E for example, then let go, and it will insert an E.

To turn on triple click, go to settings, general accessibility, triple click home. To change the typing mode, use the roter gesture (twist 2 fingers kind of like you're turning a knob). Rotate until you hear typing mode. then use 1 finger swipe down to change the setting to touch typing. You have to do this while the keyboard is on the screen. Touch typing allows you to drag your finger around until you hear the letter you want and enter a character by simply lifting your finger off the screen.
OH yeah, you can learn the different gestures by going to settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, voiceover practice. Also, there are several helpful podcasts on www.blindcooltech.com that will get you going and you'll be able to figure out things like iBooks on your own. After you know the basics, most apps are pretty self explanatory.
I could never get the hang of the roter hing or the touch typing. So I still prefer flicking the screen and double apping the letter I want. Time consuming yes, but I make fewer mistakes that way.
how do you slide the fingers on the screen instead of double tapping to unlock the screen?
I actually don't double tap, when I need to double tap I find it easier to split tap. That is, keep one finger on the place you're tapping and then tap anywhere else on the screen. I also use the touch typing feature and absolutely love it. Also, one of the things I had to ask a person about when I got the iPhone because I didn't know how to do it is closing apps I didn't want anymore instead of leaving them in the background. to do that you hit home twice to get into the app switcher, then double tap and hold till you hear a little noise and the words editing apps. then you can just double tap to remove the apps you want to remove from the switcher.
You would double tap hold and slide to unlock in that instance, easier to just touble tap or split tap.
